Emerging trends in the construction industry

The construction industry is constantly changing along with the rest of the world.  Trends are emerging as new technology is created and as new construction methods are used. Construction is the largest industry in the world, but it may come as a surprise to know that it has also historically been the slowest growing industry, until now. New trends are transforming the way the industry operates, from the design phase to the actual construction process. In recent years, advancements in technology have been the driving force behind many of the innovations and new methods being introduced. As the industry continues to evolve, it is important for those involved in construction projects to stay up to date with the latest trends and incorporate them into their work to remain competitive in a rapidly changing market.

New Technology

When you think of new technology, the mind automatically jumps to devices like VR and drones. But the growth in use of technology in the construction industry encompasses much more than the average technological advances.  It also includes the creation of more eco-friendly and sustainable materials, and the use of new devices to alter the way buildings are constructed. For example, prefabricated builds are now available to be made with 3D printers! And both VR and drones have their place in the industry as well. VR allows for companies and clients to see and experience a full 3D rendition of the build before it is even started.  Drones also help with surveying, mapping, and inspecting job sites.

New Construction Methods

Much like technology, new construction methods are transforming the industry. With the creation of methods like IPD (Integrated Project Delivery), prefabricated construction, and green building practices, there has never been a better time to start a project. The fundamental objectives of new construction methods revolve around eliminating waste and achieving higher levels of productivity, efficiency, and speed. IPD makes that happen by increasing communication from the very beginning between everyone involved in the project.

Prefabricated builds allow companies to build off-site, expediating the build process when the pieces are finished, sent, and assembled at the site. And by using green, eco-friendly methods and materials, companies can reduce the environmental impact of their projects.
